Custom Orthotics in Hamilton & Stoney Creek
Custom foot orthoses are inserts made for an individual’s feet and footwear. At Locke Minor Foot Surgery & Orthotics, the starting point is an assessment of your concern—not an assumption that every painful foot needs an orthotic.
What an assessment considers
Your chiropodist reviews where and when symptoms occur, relevant health conditions, your shoes and the demands of your day. Bring existing inserts and the footwear you hope to use. The discussion should connect any recommendation to a specific goal, such as reducing pressure or improving tolerance for an activity.
Custom orthotics, ready-made inserts or another approach?
Standard insoles and custom devices serve different needs. Footwear changes, activity adjustments or other care may also be reasonable. The AAOS orthotics guide describes uses of these devices, but individual suitability requires assessment. A device should be reviewed if it creates new pain or does not fit your shoes properly.

Conditions and symptoms
Patients may ask about orthotics because of heel pain, flat feet, high arches or ball-of-foot pain. These concerns do not all have the same cause or treatment. Your clinician can explain what benefit is realistic and how progress will be assessed.
Costs and insurance
Ask the clinic for current fees before proceeding. Check your insurer’s prescription, assessment and documentation rules, annual limits and replacement interval. Coverage for orthotics may be separate from chiropody visits. Direct billing is not a coverage guarantee.
